Lab facilities

The QEW Engineered Rubber laboratory offers a variety of different test procedures and test equipment. With basic compound it is often sufficient to test only standard properties, such as hardness, elongation at break and tensile strength.

When the compound is to be used for sophisticated products or applications, it is possible to expand to a more advanced level of testing.

This could include testing under different testing conditions for example temperature ranging from -40°C up to 300°C, but it is also possible to use different types of test media (for example water, oil, slurries or other types of solutions). All tests are preformed according to either the ASTM or the ISO standardization. The ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) is mainly accepted in the Americas whereas the ISO is now accepted throughout Europe. For the rest of the world both standards are valid and acceptance is mainly depending on regional orientation.

Our QEW Engineered Rubber laboratory has, amongst other, the ability to test the following properties of a compound:

  • Mooney viscosity
  • Density
  • Hardness
  • Tensile Strength
  • Elongation at break
  • Tear strength
  • Abrasion resistance
  • Rebound resilience
  • Compression set
  • Brittle point
  • Surface resistance
  • Fire and smoke behaviour
  • Aging under different conditions
  • Dispersion
  • Electrical resistivity

At QEW Engineered Rubber we understand the need for constant quality and reliability. As our production runs 24/7, also our laboratory is manned 24/7 to test production batches in real time. During production a small sample is send to the laboratory by pneumatic tube transport (PTT). The laboratory will receive the sample within a minute. This sample will still be hot (because of processing) when it enters the laboratory. This sample will immediately be tested on rheological behavior. When the results are within specifications (the specification is always in agreement with our costumers) it indicates that the compound is well mixed.

It is possible that the results are out of specification, however due to the real time testing it is possible to take corrective or preventive measures to correct or adjust the next batches. Without real time testing this would have resulted into that every upcoming batch could have been out of specification and required an extra processing against higher costs.

The main advantage of this system is that within a couple of batches corrective actions can be made. This will results in a fast delivery since the batches wouldn't need an extra processing or re-testing procedures.

As our costumer, you will receive a good quality of compounds and hassle free supply because we take out any possible problems. QEW Engineered Rubber will deliver on time........every time.
